Warning for importers

Importers are being advised to avoid using the services offered on the website of Japan Inspection Organisation or risk vehicles failing to gain compliance.

The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has issued an email alert to members about the organisation, which claims to be authorised by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to produce documents for vehicle compliance.

These documents include, but are not restricted to, certificates of conformity, deregistration certificates, vehicle history reports and odometer verification.

After being made aware of the website, VIA approached the NZTA to ask if documents from Japan Inspection Organisation would be accepted for compliance by key service delivery providers.

It explains the NZTA checked with the MLIT and has established Japan Inspection Organisation does not have authorisation from the Japanese government as claimed on its website.

“We advise importers not to use any documentation services provided by Japan Inspection Organisation and only use the providers identified as being acceptable in the NZTA's entry certification VIRM,” adds Malcolm Yorston, VIA’s technical support.

“If you are offered documentation from other sources than are identified in the VIRM do your due diligence to establish their bona fides before entering into agreements to purchase the offered services or run the risk of importing a vehicle that will not be able to gain compliance.”

Members with any questions can contact VIA on 0800-842-842 or email info@via.org.nz.
