VTNZ boss quits role

Greg O’Connor has announced his resignation as country manager of Vehicle Testing New Zealand (VTNZ) and will be leaving the company at the end of January 2026.
He has spent nearly 30 years at the firm and was appointed to the top role in August 2018.
O’Connor, pictured, was previously general manager operations, which involved leading VTNZ’s service and customer operations, and before that was chief financial officer from 1996 to 2003.
A VTNZ spokesperson told Stuff that O’Connor’s decision to retire was indicated to the company’s board in September and communicated to staff on October 7.
“Greg has spent close to 30 years with VTNZ and has overseen many of its achievements and growth in that time,” they say.
“Greg will be leaving VTNZ at the end of January 2026 to allow for a smooth transition to his successor.”
The news comes soon after “serious misconduct” was uncovered at a VTNZ branch in Auckland, where five driver testing officers allegedly accepted payments to pass people taking their practical tests.
VTNZ told Stuff that O’Connor’s resignation has been long-planned and is unrelated to the potential fraud at VTNZ Highbrook, which has been referred to police for investigation.
