Vehicle spending climbs
There was an increase in spending on motor vehicles via electronic cards during June.
Stats NZ reports such transactions had an increase of $5.1 million, or by 2.4 per cent, when compared to May 2023.
Spending on fuels also went up – by $20m and 3.8 per cent – over the same timescale. Transactions in the retail industries rose by one per cent and $68m, while expenditure in core retail industries was unchanged.
As for the June quarter when compared to the March quarter, the seasonally adjusted value of retail electronic card transactions in retail industries rose by $124m or 0.7 per cent. Spending in the core retail sectors increased by $131m and 0.8 per cent.
Expenditure on motor vehicles went up by 0.8 per cent to $5.1m during that period, while fuel spending decreased by $121m to 7.2 per cent.
