A dealership is preparing to upgrade its security system after two teenage girls allegedly broke into the showroom and damaged 19 vehicles.

The incident at Moore Cars – Northland Kia happened at about 1am on March 22, with the young suspects also vandalising computers and furniture, reports the NZ Herald.

Stephen Moore, owner of the dealership, says he was the first to arrive at the scene and was surprised to find the girls committing “needless, mindless vandalism”, smashing car windscreens and trashing the showroom.

He told the NZ Herald he yelled at the pair, who were reportedly aged 13 and 15, and they just walked off before being found by police shortly afterwards. Police say the matter has been referred to Youth Aid.

Moore plans to upgrade the dealership’s security system following the incident. He told the NZ Herald some of the damaged cars had been sold and customers would now have to wait for repairs or for new vehicles to be ordered.
