Used imports take hit

Sales of used-imported passenger vehicles fell by 7.2 per cent last month – coming in at 8,885 versus 9,573 in May 2023.
Toyota achieved a one-two on the models’ ladder with the Aqua on 840 units and Prius on 716. Those totals were decreases of 40.3 and 29.5 per cent respectively compared to the same month of last year.
Third spot went to Mazda’s Axela with 351, down by 34.8 per cent. Next up were Toyota’s Corolla on 320 and Nissan’s X-Trail on 300.
Last month’s top marque was Toyota with 3,224 units, down by 19.9 per cent compared to May last year. The top five was completed by Nissan on 1,209, Mazda with 1,136, Honda on 790 and Subaru on 745.
Year to date, Toyota has a market share of 38.1 per cent on the back of 16,864 registrations. Mazda and Nissan follow with 6,109 and 6,027 sales respectively.
Used commercials drop
The total for first-time registrations of used-imported commercials during May was 538 for a year-on-year drop of eight per cent from 585.
The Toyota Hiace secured a market share of 41.3 per cent last month thanks to 222 sales. Nissan’s NV350 was second with 72 and Hino’s Dutro third on 29. Toyota’s Regius came fourth with 25, while its Dyna and Fuso Canter tied for fifth on 19.
May’s top three marques in this part of the market were Toyota on 280 units, Nissan on 109 and Hino with 38.
