Used imports jump 39.5%
There were 9,589 used-imported cars registered in May, which was an increase of 39.5 per cent when compared to 6,874 during the same month of 2022.
So far in 2023, some 42,103 units have been registered for a decrease of 28.1 per cent versus the first five months of last year when 58,522 were sold.
Toyota’s Aqua, pictured, was May’s most popular model with 1,411 units, up by 25.2 per cent on May last year, for a market share of 14.7 per cent.
The Toyota Prius came second with 1,018 – up by 107.3 per cent when compared to May 2022’s total of 491 – for a 10.6 per cent slice of last month’s market.
Mazda’s Axela was third on 540 for a market share of 5.6 per cent. The top five was rounded off with Toyota’s Corolla claiming fourth spot on the ladder with 386 registrations and Nissan’s Note with fifth with 342.
The Aqua is the best-selling model year-to-date with on 6,368 units and a 15.1 per cent of the market’s action.
Next is the Prius on 4,188 sales and a 9.9 per cent market share, followed by the Axela on 2,276 and 5.4 per cent.
Predictably, Toyota was the most popular marque in May for used-imported passenger vehicles. Its total was 4,032. That was up by 58.4 per cent from 2,545 in May 2022 for a market share of 42 per cent.
Nissan was second with 1,332 – up from 1,048 and by 27.1 per cent. Mazda took out third with a 34 per cent year-on-year jump to 1,277 last month compared to 953 in May 2022.
Toyota has secured 40.3 per cent of the year-to-date market with a total of 16,947 registrations.
Completing the top three was Nissan with 5,800 sales and a 13.8 per cent market share, and Mazda on 5,717 units and 13.6 per cent.
