Toyota and Mazda share all top-five spots for model registrations in September.

There were 7,375 used-imported cars registered last month. That was down by 0.7 per cent compared with 7,426 in September 2021 to bring the year-to-date total to 89,512.

The best-selling model in September was the Toyota Aqua with a market share of 14.3 per cent and 1,051 units. 

Next up were the Toyota Prius on 528 and a 7.2 per cent slice of the market and Mazda’s Axela with 435 and 5.9 per cent. 

The top five was completed by Toyota’s Corolla, pictured, on 278 and the Mazda Demio on 239.

Those models, along with next three on the sales ladder for September, recorded year-on-year increases in registrations ranging from 7.2 per cent for the Volkswagen Golf in seventh place to 172.5 per cent for the Corolla.

The Aqua continues to be the leading model year-to-date on 9,712 units and a market share of 10.8 per cent, followed by the Prius on 4,469 and five per cent.

Completing the top five for the first half of the year is the Axela on 3,793 registrations, followed by Nissan’s Leaf with 3,016 and X-Trail on 2,423.

The top three marques in September were Toyota with 2,725 units and a 36.9 per cent market share, Mazda on 1,147 and 15.6 per cent, and Nissan with 923 for 12.5 per cent.

Toyota’s registration numbers were 45.3 per cent higher than in the same month of 2021 and took its total for the year so far to 28,380 and 31.7 per cent of the market.

Year to date, Nissan is second on 12,768 units and 14.3 per cent with Mazda next with 11,483 and 12.8 per cent.

Overall, the total number of used-imported cars registered over the first nine months of 2022 was 1.7 per cent lower than the 91,098 at the same stage a year ago.
