Upturn for commercials
There were 3,788 new commercials registered in May. The total was up by 37.2 per cent when compared to 2,761 in the same month of 2022, which was impacted by the clean car discount.
The Ford Ranger, pictured, was the most popular model with a market share of 26 per cent and 983 units. Its total climbed by 153.4 per cent from 388 units in the same month of last year.
Toyota’s Hilux claimed second place with 746 registrations and a market share of 19.7 per cent. It dropped from 942 units, or by 20.8 per cent, compared to May 2022.
The Mitsubishi Triton secured third spot thanks to 360 units for 9.5 per cent of market and a 218.6 per cent year-on-year decrease.
Year-to-date, the Ranger is the top model with 4,895 sales and 27.6 per cent of the market. The Hilux is next on 3,878 units and a 21.9 per cent market share, with the Triton completing the top three with figures of 1,460 and 8.2 per cent.
As for marques in May’s new commercial-vehicle market, Ford claimed top spot with 1,073 units, which was up by 156.7 per cent on the previous year. Its market share last month came in at 28.3 per cent.
Toyota claimed a market share 25.9 per cent on the back of 980 registrations. Its monthly total was down 15.8 per cent. Mitsubishi, in third place, secured 361 sales – up by a 122.8 per cent for a 9.5 per cent share of May 2023’s market.
Ford also leads the way year-to-date on 5,305 registrations and 29.9 per cent of activity, followed by Toyota with 4,875 and 27.5 per cent, respectively.
Used sector surges
As for used-imported commercials, there were 586 registered last month – up by 48.7 per cent from 394 in May 2022.
Toyota was the best-selling marque with 267 registrations and a market share of 45.6 per cent with Nissan next on 125 and 21.3 per cent.
It marked a sharp upturn in fortunes for both brands with the number of sales climbing 206.9 per cent year-on-year for Toyota and 101.6 per cent for Nissan.
The Toyota Hiace was the top model with 31.9 per cent of May’s market thanks to 187 sales, which was up from 34 a year ago.
Nissan’s NV350 was next with 68 sales and an 11.6 per cent share of activity, while the Toyota Regius was third on 36 units.
May’s activity takes the year-to-date total for used-imported commercials to 2,463 units, which is 42 per cent down from 4,250 after the first five months of 2022.
