Upside-down ute flips expectations

A mechanic from the United States created this unique upside-down ute after finding inspiration when rescuing an overturned Ford Ranger.

Rick Sullivan says it cost US$6,000, which at today’s rates is about NZ$9,000, and six months to build the eye-catching vehicle at his breakdown garage in Clinton, Illinois.

The idea came to him as he approached the scene of a Ford Ranger that had rolled over in the snow and had its four wheels stuck up in the air.

His thoughts were, “Hey, I’ll bet you I can recreate that”, and so he did.

The road-legal creation delivers its upside-down look through a combination of parts from a Ford F-150 sitting on top of the body of a 1991 Ford Ranger.

And the extra icing on the cake is its number plate, which reads FLIP0VER.
