Updated IHS released

The latest update from VIA, (the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association), has been released, addressing the newly updated Import Health Standard (IHS) for vehicles, machinery and equipment.

VIA warns that costs are expected to rise and delays are likely as a result of the new treatment requirements and the investment required.

The updated IHS specifies that heat treatment is the now the main treatment required to eliminate stink bugs from vehicle exports leaving Japan.

However, some categories will be eligible for fumigation or treatment with synthetic pyrethroids.

The new requirements will take effect on 1 September 2018.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) accredited border inspection agencies have already commenced preparation for this likely development, and will now proceed at full speed to get the required equipment and processes into place.
