Tyrewise launch on horizon

The countdown is on to tranche one of the Waste Minimisation (Tyres) Regulation 2023 coming into effect.
March 1 is fast approaching for the start of a product stewardship scheme in New Zealand for end-of-life tyres (ELTs).
Adele Rose, pictured, is chief executive of the 3R Group, which is the implementation project managers for Tyrewise.
In an update on progress being made, she says: “Registrations of Tyrewise participants are in full swing with loose tyre and vehicle importers and sellers, as well as tyre collectors and processors around the country getting in touch to be part of the solution for ELTs in Aotearoa New Zealand.
“Our focus has been on supporting tyre importers as they work with the fee schedule and tariff codes to enter into their inventory systems so the tyre stewardship fee will be charged to their customers from March 1.
“If you are a loose tyre importer, make sure you and or your customs broker or freight forwarder register for the next webinar hosted by CBAFF on February 7.”
Rose says members of Tyrewise’s first technical advisory group are being finalised. This group will be working on tariff codes with NZ Customs.
“Thank you to everyone who has committed their time and we will be letting you all know who they are shortly,” she adds.
“Many of our communications to date have been with businesses most affected by the changes in how we manage end-of-life tyres.
“Soon we will begin to introduce Tyrewise to all Kiwis. We’re excited to bring everyone along on the journey to improve environmental outcomes for end-of-life tyres.”
