Mitsubishi model defies prevailing trend for new sector as May sales soar more than 100 per cent.

Triton makes commercials gain

There were 3,121 new commercials registered last month, a drop of 8.8 per cent when compared with 3,423 in May 2025. 

Ford’s Ranger was the best-selling model in May with 809 units, down 22.9 per cent from the 1,049 units sold in the same month a year ago. 

Next was the Toyota Hilux on 776 registrations, a year-on-year drop of 14.5 per cent from 908. 

Mitsubishi’s Triton, pictured, was third with 322 sales after a 102.5 per cent increase from 159 units in May 2025.

The Toyota Hiace was next with 199 sales and BYD’s Shark 6 completed the top five after its registrations jumped from 49 to 157.

The Ranger sits atop the year-to-date standings with 4,044 registrations and a 24.5 per cent share of the market.

In second place is the Hilux on 3,076 and 18.6 per cent, and the Triton is third on 1,497 units and 9.1 per cent.

The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 16,508 units.

On the marques’ ladder, Toyota was top in May with 997 registrations, down 7.2 per cent from 1,074 a year ago, and a market share of 31.9 per cent.

Toyota was next on 910 units, a drop of 20.8 per cent from 1,149, and Mitsubishi was third on 322.

Ford is top of the year-to-date charts with 4,415 registrations and a market share of 26.7 per cent. Toyota is second with 4,553 and 27.6 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 1,497 and 9.1 per cent.

Used sector jumps 29%

As for used-imported commercials, the 374 units registered in May was up 29 per cent from 290 in the same month last year. This brings the year-to-date total to 1,907.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model last month on 170 registrations and a market share of 45.5 per cent.

Next was LDV’s T60 with 18 sales, and Nissan’s NV200 and NV350 on 16 and 15 registrations respectively. 

The Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Nissan Caravan shared fifth place after completing 12 sales each.

Year to date, the Hiace has notched up 756 registrations for a 39.6 per cent market share, and Nissan’s NV200 is second on 110 and 5.8 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 145 registrations, a 13.3 per cent increase from 128 a year ago.

Next was Nissan with 68, Ford on 21, Isuzu with 18 and LDV on 14.

Year to date, Toyota has 722 registrations and a 47.1 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 292 and 19 per cent, with Ford third on 89 and 5.8 per cent.
