Toyota takes on the Olympics
Toyota has outlined its mobility concept that will allow officials, athletes and spectators at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo a chance to experience the marque’s latest technologies.
Its activities are based on three areas – mobility for all, sustainability, and transport support for staff, media and athletes using a Toyota production system (TPS).
For mobility for all, Toyota will showcase the future of automated driving with level-four autonomous vehicles at the waterfront city and Haneda areas.
There will be a demonstration of the Concept-I – a car that recognises drivers’ emotions and preferences and can make conversation using artificial intelligence.
Athletes and affiliated guests will be able to use Toyota’s e-Palette, pictured above, the next-generation battery electric vehicle designed for mobility as a service.
Toyota also hopes its new JPN Taxi, introduced in October 2017, will be popular welcoming visitors, including wheelchair users. Its design features include a low, flat floor and a wide-opening rear sliding door.
In the sustainability space, Toyota is providing a fleet of more than 3,000 passenger vehicles for official use kitted out with the latest technologies to minimise damaging the environment.
It’s estimated 15 million visitors will join Tokyo’s 15m citizens during the games.
Toyota will support the organising committee to help ensure safe and effective transportation between venues for those using the official fleet.
To do this, the marque will apply its TPS-based production system, which is based on providing the best quality, lowest cost and shortest lead time by eliminating waste.
