Toyota NZ recalls 9,000-plus vehicles

Toyota New Zealand has announced a recall of 9,259 vehicles due to a potential issue affecting the combination meter in those units.

The potential problem affects certain Camry, C-HR, Corolla Cross, Corolla, GR Corolla, Highlander and RAV4 vehicles manufactured between July 2022 and November 2024.

Toyota NZ says the recall, issued on July 16, is a precautionary measure to reprogram the instrument cluster display on affected vehicles.

It adds the work will be completed free of charge by Toyota Stores and will take up to three hours to complete.

The action is being taken because of concerns “the internal memory on the instrument cluster may deteriorate over time, which may cause the combination meter to not turn on correctly during ignition”.

The company is also recalling 151 Japanese used imports because of a potential issue affecting the alternator pulley.

A notice issued in early July says some Toyota Alphard and Vellfire vehicles, manufactured between October 2014 and December 2022, are impacted by the action.

Toyota NZ says the recall is a precautionary move to inspect and, if necessary, replace the alternator pulley. If work is needed, it will take about 90 minutes and will be completed free of charge by Toyota Stores.

Owners of affected vehicles, which are traceable through registration data, will be contacted by Toyota NZ by letter.
