Toyota New Zealand is recalling 4,874 Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to a potential problem with the fuel pump.

A range of models sold in New Zealand and manufactured between September 2013 and July 2019 are affected.

Toyota says the recall is a precautionary measure because the fuel pump may stop operating, which leads to warning lights and messages being displayed on the instrument panel.

The company warns that in some instances the vehicle may lose engine power leaving it unable to be restarted.

Repairs will be completed free of charge by Toyota outlets. Owners of the affected vehicles, which are traceable through NZTA registration data, will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand.
