Top rental marques revealed
Almost 500,000 online reservations via DiscoverCars.com have been analysed to come up with jurisdictions renting the largest portion of specific marques and models.
The company’s data reveals Volkswagen and Toyota rank as the most popular brands worldwide with each boasting 20 countries that prefer their cars.
Toyota is particularly favoured in New Zealand and Australia with 64 and 32 per cent of reservations respectively between 2014 and 2022.
In New Zealand, Toyota’s Vitz, pictured, is the most popular, with nine per cent opting for it. The Corolla is the most favoured in Australia with 21 per cent.
Toyota is also popular in Canada with 29 per cent, South Africa on 32 per cent and Thailand with 41 per cent.
Volkswagen reservations were the highest in Croatia with 22 per cent with the Polo making up 11 per cent of rentals there. Elsewhere, VW is popular in Poland with 26 per cent and Mexico on 30 per cent – with its Polo again being the top pick.
The next most popular marques and Kia and Hyundai. Both have 10 countries where these brands are rented the most.
For Hyundai, it is most popular in the United Arab Emirates with 18 per cent of rentals, although Kia’s Picanto was that country’s most popular model with seven per cent.
Locations where Kia is the most chosen brand include Cyprus with its Picanto coming first on 15 per cent.
Renault was the most popular in nine countries out of those analysed with Turkey coming top where its Clio led the way. Fiat is a particularly popular in its home country, Italy and Portugal.
Aleksandrs Buraks, of DiscoverCars.com, says: “With our cars available in countries spanning around the world, we thought it would be an interesting discovery to investigate the most popular brands.
“It was intriguing to see Ford miss out on the top three with the popular American brand being overlooked in some US states for Toyotas and Volkswagens. Overall, it was great to see rental trends of such a diverse countries.”
