Tesla takes out top spot

There were 8,150 new cars registered last month for a year-on-year decline of 23 per cent when compared to 10,585 in September 2022.
Tesla’s Model Y topped the models’ ladder with 697 to claim a market share of 8.6 per cent, although that total was down from 1,502 and by 53.6 per cent on the same month of last year.
Toyota’s RAV4 and Yaris Cross were second and third with 683 and 316 for market shares of 8.4 and 3.9 per cent respectively.
The top five was completed by the Mitsubishi ASX on 286 and Toyota’s Corolla with 269.
The RAV4, pictured, is 2023’s runaway top model with 5,797 registrations for a market share of 7.2 per cent. Next up are Suzuki’s Swift on 3,152 and the Model Y with 2,895.
Toyota topped the table for marques in September on 1,885 units and a 23.1 per cent share. It also leads the way year to date with 14,480 registrations and 18 per cent.
Mitsubishi was second last month with 808 and a market share of 9.9 per cent, while Tesla came third with 1,554 and 9.3 per cent. Rounding off the top five were Ford and MG with 478 and 467 respectively.
