Targets and fees change
NZTA calls on importers to get to grips with alterations to the clean car standard for 2025.

Annual carbon-dioxide targets under the clean car standard (CCS) and rates for exceeding them have changed.
The NZTA is urging importers and dealers to familiarise themselves with the 2025 targets and rates, which kicked in on January 1, on its website. Click here for more details.
An agency spokesman says: “For 2024 charges to be applied, vehicles had to be accepted or paid in your CCS account by December 31.
“The fees for 2025 fees applied from January 1 for vehicles that are border-inspected and entry certified but not accepted, and 2024 charges won’t be applied retrospectively.”
