Registrations rise 14.5 per cent from a year ago but numbers in the used market are down.

There were 3,637 new commercials registered last month, an increase of 14.5 per cent when compared with 3,176 in September 2024. 

Ford’s Ranger was the best-selling model in September with 827 units, down 10.7 per cent from the 926 units it sold in the same month a year ago. 

Next was the Toyota Hilux on 769 registrations, a year-on-year increase of 23.6 per from 622.

The Mitsubishi Triton was third with 342 sales, followed by Toyota’s Hiace on 233 and the Ford Transit with 129.

Further down the list, Kia’s Tasman, pictured, secured 56 registrations last month to bring its total to 243 in the three months since its launch here.

The Ranger leads the year-to-date standings with 7,029 registrations and a 23.3 per cent share of the market.

In second place is the Hilux on 6,473 and 21.5 per cent, and the Triton is third on 2,547 units and 8.5 per cent.

The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 30,134 units.

On the marques’ ladder, Toyota was top in September with 1,037 registrations, up 36.8 per cent from 758 a year ago, and a market share of 28.5 per cent.

Ford was next on 956 units, a drop of 9.6 per cent from 1,058 in September 2024, and Mitsubishi was third on 342.

Toyota leads the year-to-date charts with 8,338 registrations and a market share of 27.7 per cent. Ford is second with 7,983 and 26.5 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 2,548 and 8.5 per cent.

Hiace stays on top

As for used-imported commercials, the 383 units registered in September was down 16 per cent from 456 in the same month last year. This brings the year-to-date total to 3,074.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model last month on 109 registrations and a market share of 33.1 per cent.

Nissan’s NV200 and NV350 claimed the next two spots with 25 and 23 registrations respectively.

Year to date, the Hiace has completed 952 sales for a 31 per cent market share, and Nissan’s NV350 is second on 214 units and seven per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 117 registrations, a 53.2 per cent decrease from 250 a year ago.

Next was Nissan with 74 units, Hino on 29, Ford with 27, and Isuzu on 21.

Year to date, Toyota has 1,011 registrations and a 43.1 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 451 and 19.2 per cent, with Hino third on 155 and 6.6 per cent.
