Supercar show revs up funds

A special display of $100 million worth of supercars put together by the Giltrap Group has helped raise more than $200,000 for Starship Children’s Hospital.

The inaugural Starship Supercar Show featured classics, coupes, race cars and a gold-plated Ferrari. It was held at Giltrap’s 119GNR building in Grey Lynn, Auckland, on April 11.

Tickets for the day sold out in advance and thousands of visitors flocked to catch a glimpse of some of the finest vehicles produced by luxury and supercar marques.

Highlights among about 80 exhibits included the New Zealand debut of the McLaren Speedtail, pictured, James Bond’s car from Goldfinger, the Aston Martin DB5, and what is dubbed the “Holy Trinity of Hypercars” – the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and the Ferrari LaFerrari.

Motorsport fans were also able to indulge by checking out one of Michael Schumacher’s Benetton F1 cars, Mad Mike Whiddett’s Lamborghini Huracan Drift, and an Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which won the New Zealand Endurance Championship.
