Super coupe coming soon

The next generation Toyota C-HR is coming to New Zealand with a daring new design and increased power.
With a range of hybrid-electric powertrains, it was conceived in Europe and is being built there exclusively, including the assembly of its high-voltage batteries. The first of these new models will arrive on our shores in the first quarter of 2024.
The C-HR broke the mould of SUV design with its coupe-like lines when it was launched in 2017. These are more pronounced in the new model with its “super coupe” profile. Its front presents the new face for marque’s SUVs, seen also on the all-electric bZ4X due to arrive early next year.
Steve Prangnell, Toyota NZ’s vice-president of new vehicles, says: “The C-HR has gained a loyal following among buyers looking for a sharply styled small SUV. This all-new model takes its dynamic good looks, performance and features to an even more premium level.”
The new C-HR is shorter and wider than the current model and up to 19-inch alloy wheels.
The range offers a new generation of hybrid-electric powertrains and higher levels of safety. Two powertrain options will be available in New Zealand – a 1.8-litre engine coupled with latest hybrid technology in a front-wheel-drive format available in three grades and a two-litre hybrid electric AWD GR Sport.
In keeping with Toyota NZ’s bid to reduce tailpipe emissions from its portfolio, only hybrid electrics will be offered for the new C-HR.
With a combined maximum power output of 103kW, the 1.8-litre hybrid electric offers almost 15 per cent more power than the current version. The GR Sport boasts total power output of 145kW.
Other measures to help reduce its carbon footprint include double the content of recycled plastics used in more than 100 different parts.
