Struts for Porsches recalled

A call-back has been issued for parts that could fail on certain models of the Porsche 911 and 991.

The recall relates to Ohlins front-suspension struts the affected vehicles may be fitted with – their pins may get too much stress during maximum steering.

This can lead to fatigue in the pin and its failure will result in the strut separating from the car and compromising front-wheel control, increasing the risk of a crash.

People who own a Porsche with a recalled strut should contact their supplier to arrange for a new strut and top mount to be fitted.

If a car with one of the struts installed has been on-sold, Ohlins Racing should be provided with the new owner’s details.

The products were sold by Kiwi Suspension Solutions from October 2017 and were listed by the manufacturer as “AB front suspension struts part number POS 5N20”.

They were part of kit number POZ MN02 for the 1999 to 2005 model years of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S (generation 996) the 2001-06 911 Turbo and Turbo S, generation 996.

The other kit part number is POZ MN05 for the 2005-12 Porsche 991 Carrera 4, pictured, and 4S (generation 997), and the 2006-13 Porsche 991 Turbo and Turbo S, generation 997.

The replacement product has two distinct markings on the pin, which the recalled product does not have. Click here for more details on this recall.
