Solution with technical letters

The NZ Transport Agency has said it will accept electronically signed technical letters, which avoids the need for physical signatures.
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) understands inspection organisations have been informed of this change by the agency and the vehicle inspection requirements manual (VIRM) will soon be updated.
The issue was brought to the fore when the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Singapore changed the format of its technical letters to include an electronic signature, which replaces the need for staff to physically sign each letter.
However, as currently written, the VIRM requires a physical signature on these documents.
“VIA immediately wrote to the LTA and NZTA to ensure the agencies were co-ordinating on this change in practice,” says the association in an alert to members.
“The LTA confirmed that the NZTA was advised of the change and promptly sent a reminder to the NZTA on receipt of VIA’s email. Subsequently, NZTA officials have confirmed they received this information.
“This is another example of VIA’s work behind the scenes to ensure the seamless flow of used vehicles to consumers. We are the voice for vehicle importers.” VIA can be contacted on 0800-842-842 or info@via.org.nz.
