New Zealand’s rising track star Louis Sharp has taken another step towards his goal of racing in Formula 1 after it was announced he will drive for Rodin Motorsport in next year’s FIA Formula 3 championship.

The news comes hot on the heels of the 17-year-old from Christchurch making history last month when he became the first person to win the British F4 and GB3 Championship titles in consecutive seasons.

Sharp, pictured, and Rodin shared success in 2022 when the teenager finished fourth in the British F4 competition after recording 12 podium finishes and two victories.

Last year he won that championship on the back of six wins before taking out the GB3 title when the series concluded at Brands Hatch in the UK at the end of September.

The FIA Formula 3 series runs alongside 10 of next year’s Grands Prix, starting in Australia in March and finishing at Monza, Italy, in September.

“I’m obviously excited to be making the next step up to FIA Formula 3 – even more so as I’m back with Rodin Motorsport, which has been such an important factor in all my successes to date,” says Sharp.

“Though I’m still coming to terms with what I’ve achieved winning back-to-back titles, I’m already starting to concentrate on what’s ahead.

“I’m really looking forward to be racing alongside Grands Prix in 2025 and will do everything I can to maintain my current momentum.”

Sam Waple, Rodin Motorsport’s FIA Formula 3 team manager, is pleased about Sharp joining the team off the back of a dominant season in GB3.

“Having the new chassis will provide a level playing field for the rookies and Louis has shown throughout his British F4 and GB3 campaigns how quickly he adapts to new cars and tracks,” adds Waple.

“We are really looking forward to working with Louis once again.”

In preparation for 2025, Sharp will take part in two post-season official FIA Formula 3 tests in Jerez and Barcelona, Spain. Further tests are planned in Europe before a Christmas break with family in New Zealand.
