Seven-seater from $67k

Chery is expanding its local line-up with the introduction of the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid next month.

Sitting atop of the SUV’s range, the seven-seater offers luxuries “usually reserved for vehicles with considerably higher price-tags”.

Until November 30, a pre-order bonus will be offered with the marque matching buyer deposits anywhere between $500 and $2,000.

Lucas Harris, chief operating officer for New Zealand and Australia, says: “This is the ultimate SUV in Chery’s line-up.

“The Tiggo 9’s combination of modern design, performance and advanced features will provide drivers with excellent value and a;n extraordinary driving experience. It also features the next step in Chery’s Super Hybrid technology, which results in more power and an even greater range.”

The Ultimate AWD CSH, which is priced from $66,990, has acoustic glass for the windscreen and front doors, automatic parking assist, a 360-degree surround view camera, six-way powered front seats with thigh-support extension, and heated and ventilated leather front and rear-outboard seats, a massage function for the front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Other features include a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, 14-speaker Sony sound system including two in driver’s seat headrest, in-built GPS navigation, head-up display, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless phone charger, intelligent voice command and colour-selectable ambient lighting.

Also standard are puddle lights, a panoramic sunroof with slide-tilt function and powered sunshade, power tailgate, LED daytime running, head and tail-lights, and 20-inch alloys. When it comes to technology, a first for the Tiggo family in the 9 is auto parking.

Under the skin, the Tiggo 9 is powered by Chery’s advanced Super Hybrid technology, which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two front electric motors and a single rear unit.

These have a combined output of 315kW and 580Nm and travel of up to 1,250km on a single tank of fuel and full charge. All-wheel drive is achieved by an electric motor powering the rear axle and power is sent to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission.

The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 34kWh and allows this large SUV to travel up to 170km on the NEDC on electric power alone.

Advanced driver-assistance systems include autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping, adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning. There are also 10 airbags.

The Tiggo 9 is backed by Chery’s seven-year unlimited kilometres warranty and eight-year unlimited kilometres battery warranty. There’s also up to seven years of roadside assistance.
