Say hello to Pork Pie
Goodbye Pork Pie, the iconic Kiwi movie, is set to make a comeback with Mini remaking its chase scene around Lake Hawea. The shoot will feature a new director, cast and – in place of the original 1978 model – the Mini Hatch, which went on sale earlier this month and features more powerful and fuel-efficient engines, a cockpit design and latest technologies, including variable driving modes. Despite the makeover, it “still stands for everything a Mini should – go-kart handling and performance, which puts the excitement back into driving”. Nina Englert, managing director of BMW Group NZ, says: “What better way to celebrate the launch than to recreate a scene from Goodbye Pork Pie.” The company plans to get Kiwis behind the remake by inviting them to be a part of the action. Through a series of online challenges, Mini is recruiting for honorary members of the Blondini Gang – the film’s self-titled misfits. While many entrants will win movie prize packs, one lucky person will star in the scene and secure a coveted spot in the passenger seat as the Mini burns around Lake Hawea in the Queenstown-Lakes District with cops in hot pursuit. They will also get to drive the car for a month. Entries close on May 5. Visit www.goodbyeporkpie2014.co.nz for more information.
