Four different marques feature among the top five models in last month’s registration statistics.

Sales of new imports soar

There were 7,008 new passenger vehicles registered in February, which was up 18.3 per cent from 5,922 units in the same month of last year.

Toyota’s RAV4 was last month’s top model on 719 units, up from 465 in the same month a year ago, and accounted for 10.3 per cent of the market.

Next on the monthly chart was Mitsubishi’s Outlander with 426 registrations and a 6.1 per cent market share, followed by Kia’s Seltos on 285 and 4.1 per cent.

Mitsubishi’s ASX and the MG ZS, pictured, completed the top five after selling 245 and 194 units respectively.

New entrants on last month’s year-on-year ladder included Honda’s HR-V with 90 sales, Jaecoo’s J7 on 63 and Omoda’s C5 with 51. 

In year-to-date terms, there have been 15,060 sales so far in 2025, which is up 7.4 per cent from 14,018 at the same stage a year ago.

The RAV4 is the leading model this year after selling 1,739 units and boasting an 11.5 per cent share of activity.

The Seltos is second on the year-to-date chart with 646 units, followed by the Outlander on 641, the ASX with 569 and the Suzuki Swift on 427.

Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in February with 1,518 registrations – up 34.7 per cent from 1,127 in the same month a year ago – and 21.7 per cent of the market. 

Mitsubishi was second with 781 sales and 11.1 per cent and Kia came third on 674 and 9.6 per cent. MG and Suzuki were next on the ladder with 429 and 393 units respectively.

Toyota is the leading marque year-to-date with 3,205 units and a 21.3 per cent market share.

Kia is second with 1,531 registrations and 10.2 per cent, with Mitsubishi third on 1,446 and 9.6 per cent.
