Safety ratings warning
Dealers are being reminded to make sure they use details from the correct safety rating test programme when advertising vehicles in order to avoid potentially misleading consumers.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says members of the automotive industry should quote the correct rating system for the specific vehicle, rather than refer to all ratings as Ancap ratings.
The Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA) has sent out an alert to members about the advice following a request from the agency.
Malcolm Yorston, VIA’s technical manager, warns that if a dealer inadvertently enters the wrong rating system they could be supplying misleading information in their advertising.
The correct safety ratings for vehicles can be found on the Rightcar website.
“When you search for your vehicle the results will show the rating system used, use this information if you are writing detail into your vehicle description,” explains Yorston.
“NZTA appreciate dealers who are promoting the safety message but would like them to quote the correct source of the ratings used in advertising materials.”
Any members with questions can contact VIA on 0800-842-842, or email info@via.org.nz.
