RZ makes tennis debut
Lexus NZ has taken the wraps off its all-new RZ at the ASB Classic in Auckland. The model features a steer-by-wire system and a yoke-style steering wheel with both designed to “enhance control, response and driver confidence”.
Andrew Davis, vice-president, says: “The tournament is all about performance and precision, which aligns well with the technology we’re bringing through in the RZ. Yoke steering with steer-by-wire technology is a first for New Zealand.”
The tennis event also sees the introduction of the Lexus Terrace, an exclusive hospitality space overlooking centre court. It accommodates 240 guests.
Designed for comfort and ease, the covered area features a QR-enabled in-seat food and drink ordering system.
Then there’s the Lexus Rally of the Day. This is an interactive digital driving experience inspired by each day’s most talked-about rally, which will be recreated so fans can relive it and drive it themselves via their smartphones.
By turning their phone sideways, a yoke-style steering wheel can be used to navigate key moments of the rally through movements inspired by Lexus’ steer-by-wire technology. Players aim for precision markers, receive a score based on control and accuracy, and can share their results across social channels.
Lexus NZ is continuing as the official vehicle sponsor of the ASB Classic. The WTA women’s tournament runs from January 5-11, with the ATP men’s event taking place from January 12-17.
