The Honda CR-V has been given an update for 2021 after selling more than 33,000 units in New Zealand since its launch 23 years ago.

The latest version of the crossover SUV features a refreshed exterior design, new and upgraded features and a turbocharged powertrain. Honda Sensing technology is also now standard on all grades.

Launched locally in early September, the new range heralds the return of Touring grades, which the marque says offers improvements on the outgoing S and Active variants.

These include handsfree power tailgate with foot operation, Honda Sensing safety suite, Lanewatch camera, all round parking sensors with parking aid, smart entry and push button start, advanced display audio with Apple Carplay, Android Auto and in-built Garmin navigation app.

The Sport 7 grade also receives a raft of similar improvements along with privacy glass, full LED headlights and LED fog lights. While those who choose the New Sport Premium version will benefit from a wheel and suspension package that aims to improve the driving experience.

Changes at the front end of the CR-V include a blackout grille, broader opening for the intercooler and sharp gunmetal trim. At the rear, there are dark tinted taillight lenses, a dark chrome tailgate garnish, plus a redesigned bumper and exhausts.

New-design alloys feature across all grades, 18-inch dark grey on the Touring and Sport 7, while the Sport Premium has a 19-inch light grey Y-spoke design.

Two new colours are available on the 2021 model, Cosmic Blue metallic and Ignite Red metallic, which expand the colour line up to seven choices.

The CR-V’s cabin has a redesigned centre console and Sport grades have a Qi wireless charging pad as standard. It comes in a five or seven-seat configuration.

Under the bonnet for all 2021 models is a 1.5-litre DOHC VTEC, direct-injected and turbocharged power plant. Rated at 140kw of power with 240Nm of torque, power is transmitted through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda G-Shift control logic.

Pricing starts from $39,990.
