Recalls over airbag issues
Hyundai and Land Rover have issued safety recalls for models where potential faults risk affecting the deployment of airbags
Hyundai says its Tucson units from model year 2025, pictured, may have an issue with the supplementary restraint system, specifically the side impact sensors (SIS).
Its recall notice from July 3 says the SIS in some vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect specification sensor. As a result, airbag deployment could be delayed in the event of a collision.
“A delayed airbag deployment may reduce occupant protection and increase the risk of injury during an accident,” the marque explains.
Owners of potentially affected vehicles are advised to contact their local Hyundai dealer or service agent to make the necessary booking.
Meanwhile, a potential issue has been identified on Range Rovers, model years 2022-27, and Land Rover’s Defender, model years 2020-27, and Discovery, 2021-27.
A June 25 recall notice by Land Rover states there is concern the area of the connector to the driver’s airbag at the clock spring may experience fretting corrosion over time.
“This can lead to an increased resistance in the driver’s airbag circuit, potentially resulting in the airbag failing to deploy when requested to do so,” it says.
Affected owners are asked to contact their nearest retailer or authorised repairer as soon as possible to arrange a repair.
KGM Korando, Musso, Musso Grand, Rexton, Rhino, Tivoli, model years 2022-25
Recall issued: July 14. The hazard: Some KGM vehicles may have incorrect down weights displayed on the tow bar stickers and A-pillar labels. What to do: Book a free rectification at any authorised KGM service centre.
Nissan X-Trail, model year 2022
Recall issued: July 14. The hazard: A condition in J12 vehicles has been identified in which abnormal communication between the main central processing unit and the communication integrated circuit within the lithium-ion battery controller may result in an incorrect diagnosis of a battery system fault. If communication between these components becomes abnormal, the vehicle enters a fail-safe mode. What to do: Contact a Nissan dealer to arrange rectification of the problem.
Nissan X-Trail, model years 2022-25
Recall issued: July 14. The hazard: A potential issue has been identified with the lithium-ion battery controller (LBC) software fitted to certain X-Trail (T33) e-Power vehicles. The LBC monitors battery cell voltage and performs self-diagnosis. However, under normal operating conditions, electrical noise or fluctuations in circuit resistance may incorrectly be interpreted as a fault within the lithium-ion battery. What to do: Schedule an appointment at a Nissan dealership.
Dongfeng Vigo, model years 2025-26
Recall issued: July 7. The hazard: The caliper bolts may not be sufficiently torqued on some models. What to do: Contact an authorised Dongfeng dealer.
Chery Tiggo 8, model years 2023-26
Recall issued: July 6. The hazard: Due to a manufacturing installation issue, a brake pipe located in the engine bay may chafe against the engine and become damaged. What to do: Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Chery in writing, asking them to make an appointment with a dealership to have the vehicle inspected and repair work carried out for free.
