Ford model makes big year-on-year gain as number of new and used light commercial registrations increase.

There were 3,187 new commercials registered last month, which was up 15.6 per cent when compared with 2,756 in September 2023. 

The year-to-date total is also up by two per cent after increasing from 31,417 units at this stage a year ago to 32,037.

Ford’s Ranger, pictured, was the top model in September after selling 928 units, a 53.4 per cent jump from 605 in the same month a year ago. 

In second spot was the Toyota Hilux on 624 registrations, a year-on-year increase of 15.8 per cent from 539 units, and Mitsubishi’s Triton was third with 270 after a 36.4 per cent increase from 198 sales in the previous September.

The Ranger also leads the way on the year-to-date ladder with 8,729 registrations and a 27.2 per cent share of the market.

Next is the Hilux on 5,667 and 17.7 per cent, and the Triton on 3,543 units and 11.1 per cent.

On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in September with 1,061 registrations, up 64 per cent from 647 units a year ago, and a market share of 33.3 per cent.

Toyota’s 764 registrations last month were ahead of the 759 it achieved in September 2023, while Mitsubishi was third on 271, an increase of 36.9 per cent from 198 units.

Ford leads the way year to date with 9,907 registrations and a market share of 30.9 per cent. Toyota is second with 7,504 and 23.4 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 3,545 and 11.1 per cent.

Hiace leads used market

As for used-imported commercials, there were 443 registered in September compared with 428 in the same month last year for an increase of 3.5 per cent.

The year-to-date total is 4,780 and 1.7 per cent higher than the 4,701 units registered at this stage a year ago.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model last month with 163 registrations and a market share of 36.8 per cent. Its total was up by 11.6 per cent from 146 registrations in the previous September.

The Nissan NV350 was next on 40, down 21.6 per cent from 51 units over the same period, and the Toyota Regius was third with 21 registrations, down 36.4 per cent from 33.

The Hiace is number one in the year-to-date standings with 1,841 sales and a 38.5 per cent market share, and the NV350 is second on 641 units and 13.4 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 221 registrations, a 5.2 per cent rise from 210 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 75 units and Hino on 26.

Year to date, Toyota has 2,420 registrations and a 50.6 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 1,011 and 21.2 per cent, with Hino third on 261 and 5.5 per cent.
