Ranger back on top
There were 3,749 new commercials registered last month, which was up 71.3 per cent when compared with 2,188 in August 2021.
Ford’s Ranger, pictured, was the top model with 934 units, a 37.6 per cent increase from 679 in the same month a year ago. It also had a market share of 24.9 per cent.
Next on the models’ ladder was the Toyota Hilux with 897 registrations, a huge jump of nearly 200 per cent from only 301 units a year ago, and a 23.9 per cent share. Mitsubishi’s Triton was third with 298, an increase of 136.5 per cent from 126 last August.
The substantial increases were expected after sales activity in August 2021 was disrupted because of the country being in a Covid-19 lockdown for the second half of the month.
The Hilux remains top of the year-to-date figures with 6,635 registrations and a 20.4 per cent share of the market.
Next is the Ranger on 6,407 and 19.7 per cent, and the Triton on 4,939 units and 15.2 per cent.
On the marques’ ladder, Toyota was top of the pile in August with 1,048 registrations, up 128.8 per cent from 458 units a year ago, and a market share of 28 per cent.
Ford’s 945 registrations last month were up 28 per cent from August 2021, while Mitsubishi was third on 332.
Toyota also leads the way year to date with 8,038 registrations and a market share of 24.7 per cent. Ford is second with 6,712 and 20.7 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 5,315 and 16.4 per cent.
Used market increases
As for used-imported commercials, there were 498 registered in August compared with 358 in the same month last year for an increase of 39.1 per cent.
Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model on 125 registrations, up 22.5 per cent from 102 registrations a year ago, and a market share of 22.5 per cent.
The Nissan NV350 was next on 42, up 23.5 per cent from 35 units over the same period, and the Hino Dutro was third with 38 registrations.
The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 1,410 sales and a 25.6 per cent market share, and the Nissan NV350 is second on 861 units and 15.6 per cent.
Toyota was the top marque last month with 179 registrations, a 20.1 per cent rise from 149 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 84 units and Hino on 52.
Year to date, Toyota has 1,956 registrations and a 35.5 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 1,425 and 25.9 per cent, with Hino third on 467 and 8.5 per cent.
