Ranger back on top

There were 3,648 new commercials registered last month, an increase of 13.2 per cent when compared with 3,222 in August 2024.
Ford’s Ranger, pictured, was the best-selling model in August with 978 units, up 18.8 per cent from the 823 units it sold in the same month a year ago.
Next was the Toyota Hilux on 745 registrations, a year-on-year increase of 8.6 per from 686.
The Mitsubishi Triton was third with 262 sales, followed by Toyota’s Hiace on 189 and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with 160.
The Ranger leads the year-to-date standings with 6,203 registrations and a 23.4 per cent share of the market.
In second place is the Hilux on 5,706 and 21.5 per cent, and the Triton is third on 2,205 units and 8.3 per cent.
The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 26,516 units.
On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in August with 1,115 registrations, up 20.4 per cent from 926 a year ago, and a market share of 30.6 per cent.
Toyota was next on 981 units, which was up 18.2 per cent from 830 in August 2024, and Mitsubishi was third on 262.
Toyota still leads the year-to-date charts with 7,303 registrations and a market share of 27.5 per cent. Ford is second with 7,028 and 26.5 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 2,206 and 8.3 per cent.
Used registrations down
As for used-imported commercials, the 345 units registered in August was down 29.2 per cent from 487 in the same month last year. This brings the year-to-date total to 2,690.
Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model last month on 114 registrations and a market share of 33 per cent.
Nissan’s NV200 and NV350 filled the next two spots with 30 and 19 registrations respectively.
Year to date, the Hiace has completed 843 sales for a 31.3 per cent market share, and Nissan’s NV350 is second on 191 units and 7.1 per cent.
