Plug-in ute set for debut

JAC New Zealand is preparing to give a high-performance, plug-in hybrid ute its debut at Fieldays this week.

A pre-production prototype of the T9 Hunter PHEV will be on show during the agricultural event at Mystery Creek, near Hamilton, from June 11-14.

It pairs a next-generation 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors to produce 1,000Nm of torque.

Still in pre-launch development, the high-torque hybrid system is designed to drive more than 100km on electric power alone and more in hybrid mode.

Andrew Craw, JAC NZ general manager, says the T9 Hunter PHEV’s local launch is yet to be confirmed but the brand will be conducting “loads of Kiwi testing on NZ soil” and listening to feedback from visitors at Fieldays.

“The T9 Hunter PHEV shows what JAC can deliver in the world of electric and hybrid workhorses, but first we want to hear what Kiwis think and get the PHEV out and about on and off NZ roads for rigorous testing,” he adds.

Other models that will be on show at Fieldays from JAC NZ, which is a major sponsor of the event, include its top-of-the-line T9 diesel ute and light-duty EV and Cummins diesel trucks.
