Open-top luxury meets V8 grunt
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680, a new flagship open-top model that introduces the Maybach brand’s craftsmanship and exclusivity to the SL roadster for the first time, has arrived in New Zealand.
At the heart of the vehicle is a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine producing up to 430kW and 800Nm, with power delivered to all four wheels via the fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This combination delivers 0-100kph acceleration in 4.1 seconds.
The SL 680 features bespoke finishes, active ride control suspension, rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of steering angle, and a Speedshift MCT 9G transmission with a dedicated Maybach drive programme.
There is also a Maybach-specific grille, obsidian black painted bonnet and 21-inch forged alloy wheels, available in a five-hole or multi-spoke design. Standard metallic paint finishes include garnet red and opalite white magno.
Customers can further personalise their vehicle through optional Manufaktur Exclusive exterior finishes, offering an expanded palette of more than 50 high-end paint options.
High-gloss chrome elements extend to the side sills, windscreen surround and front apron, and the insulated acoustic fabric soft top carries a subtle Maybach pattern.
Digital light headlamps with rosé gold detailing and Maybach emblems underline the model’s positioning, while puddle lamps project a Maybach motif when the doors are opened.
Inside the cabin, nappa leather upholstery is complemented by a Manufaktur Dinamica microfibre roof liner and bespoke trim detailing.
A Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system with 17 speakers and 1220 watts of output will keep all occupants entertained, while the wood and leather multifunction steering wheel is heated.
Technology is centred around an 11.9-inch MBUX central display with extended functions, augmented reality navigation and 5G connectivity for digital extras.
Standard features include wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A head-up display and 64-colour ambient lighting scheme allowing owners to personalise the interior are also standard.
Safety and driver assistance systems include active lane keeping assist and active lane change assist, active steering assist and extended automatic restart in traffic jams, supported by a 360-degree camera and memory parking assist.
Pricing starts from $432,400, including GST and on-road costs.
