NZ Cheap Cars expands

NZ Cheap Cars says it’s entering a phase of rapid national expansion with a new dealership set to open on Auckland’s North Shore.

It also has two further branches in progress in addition to its latest location in Wairau Road, Wairau Valley, which opens on August 29.

The company reports its strong financial-year 2026 performance has given it further confidence to continue investing in its dealership network, people and nationwide growth strategy.

The new North Shore location represents the next stage of growth for the New Zealand-owned retailer and strengthens its presence in one of Auckland’s key automotive markets.

NZ Cheap Cars first established a presence on the North Shore in 2023, and the opening of 107 Wairau Road, pictured, reflects its “continued confidence in the area” and forms part of a broader expansion strategy.

Managing director Michael Yang says the combination of a strong financial year and continued demand has put the company in a strong position for its next stage of growth.

“Financial-year 2026 was a strong year for NZ Cheap Cars and has given us the confidence to continue investing in the business,” he adds. “We aren’t slowing down. The opening of Wairau Road is another important milestone for us, but it’s only one part of what we have planned.”

NZ Cheap Cars has two further dealership locations in progress with both expected to open within the next three months. One will be another Auckland location, while the second will expand the company’s footprint outside the city. Further details on both will be announced once plans are finalised.

“Our ambition is to continue building NZ Cheap Cars into a truly nationwide automotive retail business,” adds Yang.

“Growth isn't just about opening more branches. We want to grow sustainably, and make sure every new location gives our customers more choice, greater convenience, and the same value and service that have helped build NZ Cheap Cars.”

The new North Shore dealership will offer customers a “wide selection of affordable” used vehicles, supported by the company’s “focus on competitive pricing, quality stock and a straightforward buying experience”.

The expansion follows several years of growth for NZ Cheap Cars, which has developed from its Auckland beginnings into a multi-location group with operations across the North and South Islands.

Yang says the company remains ambitious about what comes next. “We have come a long way but still see a huge amount of opportunity ahead of us. We want to keep growing, improving and challenging ourselves to become one of New Zealand’s leading automotive retail businesses.”

NZ Cheap Cars dealership network includes branches in Hamilton, Tauranga and Christchurch in addition to Auckland.
