Nissan ute makes big gains

There were 3,434 new commercials registered last month, a drop of 9.9 per cent when compared with 3,813 in May 2024. 

However, the latest tally was up 25.2 per cent from 2,743 units in April this year.

Ford’s Ranger was the best-selling model in May with 1,051 units, which was 1.4 per cent fewer than the 1,066 units it sold in the same month a year ago. 

Next was the Toyota Hilux on 910 registrations, a year-on-year increase of 28.5 per from 708.

Nissan’s Navara, pictured, was third in May with 238 sales, a rise of 108.8 per cent from 114. The Mitsubishi Triton was next on 159 and fifth spot was claimed by the Toyota Hiace with 134. 

The Ranger has now edged ahead in the year-to-date chart with 3,512 registrations and a 23 per cent share of the market.

In second place is the Hilux on 3,437 and 22.5 per cent, and the Triton is third on 1,313 units and 8.6 per cent.

The market’s overall year-to-date total stands at 15,249 units, which is down 20.5 per cent from the 19,190 registrations at the same stage of 2024.

On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in May with 1,152 registrations, up from 1,245 a year ago, and a market share of 33.5 per cent.

Toyota was next on 1,079 units, which compares with 990 in May 2024, and Nissan was third on 238.

Toyota tops the year-to-date charts with 4,320 registrations and a market share of 28.3 per cent. Ford is second with 3,999 and 26.2 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three on 1,313 and 8.6 per cent.

Hiace market leader

As for used-imported commercials, the 290 units registered in May was down 46 per cent from 537 in the same month last year.

This brings the year-to-date total to 1,736, which is 40.6 per cent fewer than the 2,925 sales at this stage a year ago.

Toyota’s Hiace was the top model last month on 75 registrations and a market share of 25.9 per cent, despite its tally falling 66.1 per cent from 221 registrations in the previous May.

The Nissan NV200 was next on the ladder with 16 registrations, followed by Isuzu’s Elf on 14.

The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 595 sales and a 34.3 per cent market share, and Nissan’s NV350 is second on 124 units and 7.1 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 108 registrations, a 61.2 per cent decrease from 278 a year ago.

Following the Japanese marque was Nissan with 53 units, Isuzu on 23, Ford with 19, and Mitsubishi and Hino sharing fifth spot on 16 sales.

Year to date, Toyota has 797 registrations and a 45.9 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 324 and 18.7 per cent, with Isuzu third on 108 and 6.2 per cent.
