The overall total of new passenger vehicles and light commercials registered last month came in at its lowest since February 2014, reports the Motor Industry Association (MIA).
There were 9,539 units sold last month. That was the lowest total for a February since 9,139 in 2014 and only slightly higher than 9,577 in the same month of 2015, according to statistics supplied to Autofile Online.
David Crawford, chief executive of the MIA, says some of the decline in the new-vehicle market last month is attributable to Cyclone Gabrielle.
In addition, the impacts of the government’s clean-car programme may now be being felt as well as a softening of the market in general.
