Fresh SUV just around the corner

Mazda Motors of New Zealand has announced pricing for its first-ever CX-80 with local arrivals just around the corner.

The three-row SUV is the third model in this country to launch from the marque’s large architecture platform.

The CX-80 SP Hybrid starts at $74,990 with the SP PHEV priced from $80,990. The Homura PHEV is $89,490. Recommended retail prices include GST but exclude on-roads.

Highlights of the CX-80 SP include leather seat trim, front-seat heating, black metallic 20-inch alloys and LED headlights.

Gloss-black exterior mirrors are combined with a black chrome signature wing and a honeycomb front grille. There’s also a power-operated tailgate, 360 view monitor and personalisation system as standard.

CX-80 SP is available with PHEV and 3.3-litre six-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrains.

The Homura builds on the equipment level of the SP. The exterior has a panoramic glass sunroof and adaptive LED headlights.

Its driver personalisation system is upgraded to include facial-recognition technology and ideal driving-position recommendations.

The 360 view monitor features Mazda’s see-through view functionality and a high-power Bose audio system provides sound quality in all seating positions. The CX-80 Homura is available exclusively as a PHEV.

A single interior-trim option is available for the CX-80. Black leather, standard for SP and Homura grades, features titanium-coloured stitching, and is paired to leather-like trim and mesh-metal film inserts on the instrument panel, centre console and doors.

As seen with the CX-60 and CX-90, Mazda’s CX-80 is available exclusively with a hybrid powertrain range.

The PHEV powertrain combines a Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre, four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine with a 17.8kWh high-capacity lithium-ion battery.

The petrol engine develops a maximum output of 141kW at 6,000rpm and 261Nm of torque, while the electric motor delivers 129kW and 270Nm from zero rpm. This combination delivers total output of 241kW and torque of 500Nm.

The PHEV’s WLTP combined fuel consumption is 1.7l/100km and the WLTP combined CO2 emissions figure comes in at 37g/km. Electric motor-powered driving is up to 59km.

Developed using the “right sizing” concept, which optimises displacement to improve fuel and power efficiency, the 3,283cc turbocharged inline-six-cylinder e-Skyactiv G petrol unit is mated to Mazda’s 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

The e-Skyactiv G petrol hybrid returns average fuel consumption of 8.4l/100km and CO2 emissions of 189g/km. Headline outputs of 209kW and 450Nm put the CX-80 Hybrid as a front-runner in its segment. Both powertrain options offer a 2,500kg braked-tow rating.
