New safety systems key
A report shows new safety technologies will play a major role in bringing down the number of people who die on roads. The study, which has been released by the European Transport Safety Council, says lane-keeping technology, intelligent seatbelt reminders and speed-assist and control systems have helped contribute to the reduction in road trauma across the EU. Another element of the report reveals that fatality rates on German motorways with no speed limits are experiencing increased fatalities compared to those with speed limits. “This report highlights the importance of bringing vital safety-assist technologies into our cars as early as possible to drive down road trauma,” says Nicholas Clarke, ANCAP’s chief executive officer.
