New low for dealer numbers
The number of dealers in New Zealand continues to fall and reached 2,860 at the end of April, according to figures released by the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR).
This was 15 fewer than the 2,875 recorded for the previous month and the latest tally was also down 150 from the 3,010 registered dealers at the end of April 2022.
Trader numbers have now fallen every month since June last year when the total stood at 3,020. They have also largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,536 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
