There were 6,065 new passenger vehicles registered in June, which was down 64.8 per cent from 17,235 units in the same month of last year.

The drop comes after sales soared in June last year ahead of a revision of settings for the clean car discount, which meant fewer vehicles were entitled to rebates from July 1, 2023.

Last month’s total was also down by 36.4 per cent from 9,535 registrations in June 2022.

In year-to-date terms, there have been 40,086 sales so far in 2023, a decrease of 34.2 per cent compared with 60,890 at the same stage a year ago.

Toyota’s RAV4 was the top model on 556 units, compared with 1,495 in the same month a year ago, and accounted for 9.2 per cent of the market.

It is also the leading model for the year-to-date after selling 4,200 units and grabbing a 10.5 per cent share of activity.

Mitsubishi took out second and third spot on the models’ ladder, with the Outlander on 255 registrations and the ASX on 252 to give both a 4.2 per cent market share.

Suzuki’s Swift and the Kia Seltos, pictured, were next up on 208 and 189 units respectively.

The top five positions for last month are the same as on the year-to-date chart with the Outlander in second on 1,686, followed by the ASX with 1,680, the Swift on 1,389 and the Seltos with 1,356.

Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in June with 1,203 registrations – down from 3,182 in the same month a year ago – and 19.8 per cent of the market.

Next up were Mitsubishi on 680 and 11.2 per cent and Kia with 582 and 9.6 per cent. Hyundai and Suzuki completed the top five with 488 and 399 units respectively.

Toyota is the leading marque year to date with 8,568 units and a 21.4 per cent market share.

Mitsubishi is second with 4,410 registrations and 11 per cent, followed by Kia on 4,071 and 10.2 per cent.
