New car sales jump 14.5%

Toyota, Mitsubishi and Ford models complete top five for November as 2025 total appears on course to top 100,000 units.

New car sales jump 14.5%

There were 10,247 new passenger vehicles registered in November, which was up by 14.5 per cent from 8,950 units in the same month of last year.

Toyota’s RAV4 was the leading model last month after selling 1,257 units and accounting for 12.3 per cent of the market. However, its sales numbers were down by 32.9 per cent from 1,873 registrations in November 2024.

The Mitsubishi ASX, pictured, was next after recording 558 sales, a year-on-year increase of 68.1 per cent from 332, and snaring a 5.4 per cent market share.

Ford’s Everest was the third best-seller in November with 527 units and 5.1 per cent of the market, while the Mitsubishi Outlander was fourth on 425 and 4.1 per cent. Toyota’s Yaris Cross completed the top five with 348 and 3.4 per cent.

November marked the third consecutive month with more than 10,000 registrations. Year-to-date, there have been 91,565 sales, which is up by 14.3 per cent from 80,113 at the same stage a year ago.

The RAV4 is set to be crowned the country’s best-selling model of 2025 with 10,393 sales so far this year. Ford’s Ranger is second overall with 8,892.

The ASX is second in the year-to-date passenger vehicles chart with 4,634 units, followed by the Outlander on 4,077, the Kia Seltos with 3,160, and the Everest on 3,108.

Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in November with 2,705 registrations – down 20.4 per cent from 3,400 in the same month a year ago – and 26.4 per cent of the market. 

Mitsubishi was second with 1,125 sales and 11 per cent and Kia came third on 773 and 7.5 per cent. Ford and Mazda were next on the ladder with 644 and 591 units respectively.

Toyota is the leading marque year-to-date with 20,905 registrations and a 22.8 per cent slice of the market.

Next is Mitsubishi with 10,118 registrations and 11.1 per cent, and Kia on 8,379 and 9.2 per cent.
