New car sales down
There were 8,964 new passenger vehicles registered in November for a 21.8 per cent drop compared to 11,470 in the same month of last year. So far, 80,191 new cars have been sold in 2024.
Last month’s top model was Toyota’s RAV4 with 1,877 for a market share of 20.9 per cent. Its November total climbed by 32.7 per cent year on year.
The marque’s Corolla took out second place thanks to 419 sales, which represented a 4.7 per cent share of last month’s market.
The Ford Everest, pictured, came third with 383 for a year-on-year jump of 53.2 per cent. Toyota’s Yaris Cross with 335 and Mitsubishi’s ASX with 333 rounded off the top five.
Lower down the ladder, the blue oval’s Mustang Mach-E finished November with 86 sales, the Polestar 2 came home with 62 and there were 48 Volkswagen ID.5s registered.
Toyota claimed a 38 per cent share of the new-car market in November with 3,406. That total was up by 13 per cent versus the same month of last year.
Mitsubishi was runner-up on 8.4 per cent and 757 units although that was a year-on-year drop of 29.1 per cent.
Ford was third with 711, Suzuki fourth on 457 and Mazda fifth with 426. Among the market’s newcomers, BYD sold 78 units, Omoda 56, Jaecoo 54, Cupra 28 and Leapmotor four.
