New car market up 20.5%

There were 7,633 new passenger vehicles registered in July, which was up by 20.5 per cent from 6,332 units in the same month of last year.
Toyota’s RAV4 was the top model last month after selling 601 units and clinching 7.9 per cent of the market. Its sales numbers were up by 52.5 per cent from 394 registrations in July 2024.
Next on the ladder was Suzuki’s Fronx, pictured, with the newcomer snaring 347 registrations and a 4.5 per cent market share.
Mitsubishi’s Outlander was third on 307 and four per cent, followed by the Kia Seltos with 277 and 3.6 per cent, and Mitsubishi ASX on 250 and 3.3 per cent.
Year-to-date, there have been 52,214 sales, which is up by 12.5 per cent from 46,394 at the same stage a year ago.
The RAV4 is the leading model year-to-date after selling 5,182 units for a 9.9 per cent market share.
The ASX is second with 2,448 units, followed by the Seltos on 2,155, the Outlander with 1,902 and the Ford Everest on 1,301.
Toyota led the marques’ ladder in July with 1,353 registrations – up 38.6 per cent from 976 in the same month a year ago – and 17.7 per cent of the market.
Mitsubishi was second with 711 sales and 9.3 per cent and Kia came third on 669 and 8.8 per cent. Suzuki and Mazda were next on the ladder with 624 and 399 units respectively.
Toyota is the leading marque year-to-date with 10,429 units and a 20 per cent slice of the market.
Next is Mitsubishi with 5,226 registrations and 10 per cent, and Kia on 5,046 and 9.7 per cent.
