A car dealership is joining police in appealing for public help to track down a Ford Mustang GT, one of two taken during a weekend raid.

Police say the sports cars, worth $70,000 each, and a number of keys were taken from Ian Humphrey Motors in Palmerston North after the offenders entered the premises at about 6am on Sunday, July 30.

Security camera footage shows two people breaking into the yard, which is owned and operated by the father-and-son team of Ian and Kerry Humphrey, after arriving in an allegedly stolen Subaru.

The company says the suspects took a burgundy 2016 Ford Mustang GT, registration JWL201, and a black 2018 Ford Mustang GT, pictured below, registration LPD11.

Ian Humphrey Motors revealed details of the incident to Facebook early on July 30 and provided an update later the same day.

“Thanks to the overwhelming public response and outstanding work today by the Palmerston North Police, the burgundy Mustang has been recovered,” its post says.

“The search continues for the black Mustang GT. Please let the police or us know if you have any sightings of this car.”

Police say anyone with information about the burglary, or who has seen the missing car to contact them on 105 referencing file number 230730/4274.
