Most popular used imports unchanged
There were 7,762 used-imported cars registered in New Zealand during February, a decrease of 27.6 per cent compared with 10,718 in the same month of last year.
The top five models were unchanged from January< https://autofile.co.nz/used-imports-remain-low->, with Toyota nabbing the first two places on the models’ ladder.
Its Aqua was out front on 1,196 units, up 45.7 per cent from 821 a year ago, and the Prius was next with 697, which climbed 84.9 per cent from 377 units.
Those figures meant the Aqua had a 15.4 per cent market share and the Prius took out nine per cent.
Mazda claimed out the next two model spots last month. Its Axela came third on 436 registrations, only 1.9 per cent more than the 428 it achieved in February 2022, while sales of the Demio, pictured, jumped 70.7 per from 157 units to 268.
The Toyota Corolla completed the top five with 254 sales, a 37.3 increase from 185 a year ago.
Year to date, the Aqua is out front on 2,288 registrations and 15.4 per cent of the market, followed by the Prius on 1,344 and nine per cent, and the Axela on 870 and 5.8 per cent.
February’s top marque was Toyota with 3,009 registrations, just 1.1 per cent more than the 2,976 in the same month of last year. This gave it 38.8 per cent of the total market.
Second spot went to Mazda with 1,114, down 16.7 per cent from 1,337 a year ago, and a 14.4 per cent share.
Nissan, Honda and Subaru were next on the ladder with 994, 535 and 462 sales, respectively, all down on their performances from the previous February.
Toyota was the best-selling marque over the first two months of the year, on 5,694 units and 38.2 per cent of the market.
Mazda was next with 2,198 sales and 14.8 per cent, with Nissan on 1,950 and 13.1 per cent.
