Model ‘pushes boundaries’
MG Motor’s IM model range is now officially available to order in New Zealand with prices starting at $66,900.
“Our dealers are excited to offer the all-new IM6 as part of their MG portfolio to customers,” says Dean Sheed, country business manager of MG Motor NZ. “We can’t wait to see how they are going to respond to its exhilarating performance and elegant design.”
The car’s first-generation IM digital chassis offers four-wheel steering across the line-up. The IM6 achieves centralised control across steering, braking, suspension and electric drive.
The vehicle pushes working voltage to 875, making it one of the highest among mass-production EVs to offer quasi 900-volt architecture, while 396kW ultra-fast charging adds 300km NEDC range in 15 minutes.
The IM AD assisted-driving system “pushes new boundaries”. It offers “safe, comfortable and reliable” motoring in real-world conditions and has been jointly built with Momenta, one of the world’s first companies to achieve mass production of end-to-end large model-based autonomous systems.
For instance, by learning from New Zealand’s motoring environment, the system has “quickly mastered local conditions and driving styles”. These include:
• Navigating intersections even in the absence or degradation of lane markings, and maintaining smooth driving and preventing frequent disengagements.
• Interactive lane changes, which avoid abrupt cut-ins. Instead, the system evaluates dynamic factors, such as speed and nearby large vehicles, to execute lane shifts.
• Automated parking assistance, capable of handling more than 30 scenarios including narrow alleys and underground garages.
The IM6 Premium is priced at $66,900, the Platinum at $77,900 and Performance at $89,900. These maximum retail prices exclude on-road costs.
