Model gains high-tech upgrade

Kia has launched an all-new generation of its Niro range with the electrified models featuring updates on safety, aesthetics, design and technology.

Todd McDonald, managing director of Kia New Zealand, says: “Kia has introduced a wide range of electric vehicles over the last five years.  Known as our ‘Plan S’ strategy, the all-new Niro is the latest model in this global initiative.

“The all-new Niro is very nearly a clean sheet redesign and … builds on the previous models’ ease of use and practicality, then adds a serious dose of extra technology.”

Extensive active and passive safety features are included as a priority across all trim levels. These include the addition of centre-side airbag, multi-collision braking, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, and intelligent speed limit assist.

The new model, which is available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains, is longer and wider than its predecessor and the inside boasts premium and eco-friendly materials.

Design changes include the latest evolution of Kia’s signature Tiger Face and a two-tone body and optional contrasting C-Pillar.

Recharging the Kia Niro EV from 10 per cent to 80 per cent takes 45 minutes with a suitable 100kW DC rapid charger, an improvement compared with the previous model, and it delivers a range of 460km (WLTP).

An extensive ride and handling localisation programme also means the Niro is suitable for the road conditions and driving styles encountered in New Zealand.

Pricing for the new range starts from $39,990 and all models in the line-up qualify for a clean car rebate.
