Model brings AI to fore
Would-be buyers of the IM6 can reserve it online from $66,900, plus on-road costs, with MG saying it “represents a leap forward in premium electric motoring with elevated design, innovative technology and more”.
The marque expects the all-new model to set a benchmark for AI technology in vehicles in New Zealand.
Dean Sheed, country business manager for MG Motor NZ, says: “The IM6 embodies ‘intelligent mobility’, which consumers will truly enjoy. They will discover the remarkable features and capability of the vehicle.
“Areas such as advanced electrification, its digital chassis and AI-enhanced cabin are enabled through latest-generation chipsets from Nvidia or Qualcomm.”
The IM6 is equipped with bi-directional rear-wheel turning technology offering up to 12 degrees of articulation. This advanced system “dramatically reduces the turning circle and transforms the driving experience, making it comparable to that of a compact hatchback”.
The enhanced manoeuvrability allows for “effortless parking and precise navigation” through tight urban environments. At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in tune with the front to improve stability, cornering performance and overall handling.
The IM6 is equipped with AI technology that enhances the driving performance. Functions such as “rainy night mode” and “one touch AI chauffeur” utilise its 360-degree cameras to assist or perform tasks on the motorist’s behalf.
Compatibility with the MG iSmart app means owners can control key functions remotely, including monitoring, charging and checking vehicle location and route planning from a smartphone. For instance, the app always shows the car’s precise location on the in-built map.
Maximum retail prices for the IM6, including GST and excluding on-roads, are $66,900 for the Premium with a 75kWh battery and rear-wheel drive, $77,900 for the Platinum with a 100kWh battery and rear-wheel drive, and $89,900 for the IM6 Performance with a 100kWh battery and all-wheel drive.
IM – short for Intelligence in Motion – is being launched in New Zealand by MG Motor as a new premium EV sub-brand with the introduction of the IM6. Representing a “leap forward in zero-emissions travel”, IM presented by MG Motor sits under SAIC and is a joint venture between SAIC, ZJ Hi Tech and Alibaba.
